Shania Twain is embracing her body in all its fullness. The 57-year-old is not ashamed of showing off her body as she gets older. She recently addressed going topless for the cover of her latest single which helped her embrace the body changes that came with menopause.

Twain Speaks On Embracing Her Body

Twain, popularly referred to as the Queen of Country Pop, released her latest single Waking Up Dreaming in September. The single will appear on her upcoming sixth studio album, Queen of Me (out Feb. 3), and the country-pop icon decided to go topless for the single art. “This is me expressing my truth. I'm comfortable in my own skin, and this is the way I am sharing that confidence,” she told People, noting that “the best fashion is confidence.” Twain went on to reveal that as a menopausal woman, going topless for that shoot meant embracing her body, adding that it felt good and “liberating” to do that.

Other Times Twain Ditched The Bra

This is not the first time Twain has gone topless with her art. The songstress stripped her midriff and went braless for her debut 1993 music video What Made You Say That. “From the very beginning — the very first video — I was ditching the bra,” she said. Like most people, the singer has had struggles with body image. As she got older, she began to have feelings of insecurity that stemmed from the fact that her breasts are not as plump and firm as they once were, leading her to want to cover up more.

Twain Speaks On Insecurity

However, when the feelings started to creep in, Twain decided to take a bold step and not “regress” to her insecure self. She added that she was embracing her body the way she should have all through her childhood through menopause, adding that she wanted to “share that courage in the artwork that I am directing.”

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the You're Still the One singer spoke about struggling with body image as a child, revealing that she would try to flatten her breasts to avoid abuse from her stepdad Jerry. She was very self-conscious and could never wear anything that would reveal her breasts or curves. She even took to dressing like a boy, wearing two bras or spandex under oversized sweatshirts.

Today, Twain is more comfortable in her own skin than ever before and hopes to inspire women of all ages to embrace body confidence. The Any Man of Mine singer showed up in her new super-confident self this year at the People’s Choice Awards when she walked the red carpet in a sexy, semi-sheer, cheetah-print gown. She showed off her toned abs in the stunning ensemble which included a hood, a black velvet skirt, sheer sleeves, and a midsection panel.
