Shania Twain is back after a 15-year hiatus from the music scene, and as she gets ready for the Queen of Me tour, she seems ready to take her spot as Queen of country music. However, the country singer was on the cover of People's story this week as she highlighted how she healed from her painful past. Shania Twain spoke about the "very low period of [her] life," admitting that her personal and business suffered.

How She Found Peace

Twain told People magazine,

"I do believe that everyone's got to do what is right for them. It took a lot of working through.

She continued by saying that after divorcing Robert John "Mutt" Lange, she now leads "such a great life" despite the scars he left behind.

"It took a lot of working through, but I do believe that everyone's got to do what is right for them," "I found peace a long time ago, and maybe peace is forgiveness, you know? I'm able to have more appreciation for him again, not for what happened in our marriage but for all that he contributed to such a great part of my career and my life. We have a beautiful child from it. The resentment is gone."

Heartbreak Of The Century

The couple's marriage reportedly ended due to Lange having an affair with Marie-Anne Thiébaud, the singer's friend. Marie-Anne was married to Frédéric Thiébaud, a well-known businessman who was employed for Nestlé at the time.

The two's friendship deepened, and Shania later admitted to Oprah Winfrey at the time,

"Fred and Mutt were good friends, and Marie-Anne and I were good friends."

Years later, in 2008, Mutt requested a divorce from Shania. At the time, the singer thought the request came out of the left field. Shania had to inquire if Marie-Anne believed something was wrong with him after he declined to explain his motivation for wanting to dissolve their 14-year marriage. However, Shania was unaware of Mutt and Marie's relationship as Frederic brought it to her notice that her husband had been cheating on her with her best friend.

Finding Love Again

Shania was devastated when she learned of the affair. But despite everything, she noticed that her connection with Frédéric was deepening because she relied on him for support because he had also suffered harm. Twain and Thiébaud, 52, got married on New Year's Day 2011 after she finalized her divorce in 2010, a decision she wasn't sure she'd ever make. In 2009, the two began a formal relationship; a year later, they got engaged. 2011 saw the two exchange vows on New Year's Day.
