Millionaires and athletes are just like everybody else. They make way more money than the rest of us, but they all have dreams, fears, anxiety, and go through the same problems like the average person, more or less.

Shaquille O'Neal's very public divorce from Shaunie Henderson was another example of that. It seemed like the couple would live happily ever after before splitting in 2011. They ended on good terms and have co-parented their four children ever since, but things were quite ugly for a while.

Shaq Admits His Wrongdoings

Then, looking back on his marriage and what went wrong, Shaq finally admitted to his wrongdoings and issued his former wife a public apology:

“I never talked about this, but I’m glad you guys asked me because I don’t mind talking about this,” he said on The Pivot Podcast. “But I was bad. She was awesome. She really was. It was all me.” “Look we don’t need to talk about what I was doing but I wasn’t protecting her and protecting those vows. Sometimes when you live that double life, you get caught up. So I’m not gonna say it was her, it was all me," Shaq continues.

She Was Great, Claims Shaq

The four-time NBA champion added that Shaunie was actually great to him and his family, taking all the blame for their divorce and acknowledging it was already too late to fix his mistakes:

“She did exactly what she was supposed to do, gave me beautiful kids, take care of the house, take care of corporate stuff. It was just all me,” said The Big Diesel. “Sometimes, when you make a lot of mistakes like that you can’t really come back.”

Too Little, Too Late

Notably, Shaunie sure appreciated Shaq's words. However, she claims she needed him to step up back then, not now, as people claimed she cheated on him and stole a lot of his money:

“I just maybe wish it had happened a long time ago. Having affairs and being accused of stealing money-all types of things people were saying. I needed him to stand up for me then.”

Shaq Was A 'Serial Cheater'

Shaq has never shied away from controversies and has been honest about nearly every single subject in his life. Months ago, he referred to himself as a 'serial cheater,' going as far as to say that he was 'the best at it.'

"I was a serial cheater. I'm never the guy that's going to get up here because of my platform and fake it. I did it. I was the best at it. I'm not proud of it. I lost my family doing it and I lost valuable and important years with my children from doing it."

Once again, celebrities and superstars are just like the rest of us, so it's not our place to judge them or make assumptions about their lives. At least, it's glad to know that Shaq is finally acknowledging his mistakes and trying to do better.
