Antonio Banderas has played his fair share of iconic film characters. He sunk his teeth into Armand in Interview with the Vampire, blew audiences away as El Mariachi in Desperado, and carved an indelible "Z" into our hearts as Zorro in The Mask of Zorro.

Recently, Antonio sat down with ComicBook.com's Chris Killian in order to promote his latest film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. During their conversation, Antonio confirmed his willingness to return to the mantle of Zorro, as well as his choice of who should don the mask after him.

We Are Living In The Era Of The Legacy Sequel.

Who needs new ideas when filmmakers can just reboot and reinvent stories from years past? Just in the past decade alone, moviegoers have seen the return of countless historic film franchises — including Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Predator, and Top Gun, to name a few. Now, it appears that one more name may be added to the list with a possible return of Antonio Banderas as Zorro.

The Story First Broke During A Recent Sit-Down With Antonio And ComicBook.com's Chris Killian.

Chris is the host of ComicBook.com's Daily Distraction. He and Antonio spoke via video chat in order to promote the latest addition to the Shrekverse, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Considering the many similarities between Puss and Zorro, Chris seized the opportunity to turn the topic of conversation to one of Banderas' most beloved films — The Mask of Zorro.

He then goes on to talk about how the world of cinema is currently entrenched in the era of the legacy sequel and asked whether or not Antonio had any interest in returning to the seminal character in order to pass the torch to the next generation.

"I would consider that possibility; why not? If they called me to do Zorro, I would do what Anthony Hopkins did in the first to me. And so, yes, give the torch to somebody else."

Chris Then Asked If There Was A Specific Actor Whom Antonio Felt Would Be A Good Fit For The Character.

"Tom Holland," Antonio replied without hesitation. "I did Uncharted with him and he's so energetic and fun and he's got this spark, too. You know, why not?"

You heard it straight from the fox's mouth — Tom Holland should be the next Zorro. Considering he's already taken on the mantle of Nathan Drake, as well as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, picturing him as the epochal masked swashbuckler/freedom fighter doesn't seem too far outside the realm of possibility.
