When you’re as big of a celebrity as Reese Witherspoon, you’d expect her to get married to another A-lister. Maybe someone like Brad Pitt or Bradley Cooper.
But in true Reese (and Elle Woods fashion), she likes to surprise people. She did so by marrying a non-celeb, talent scout Jim Toth.
The pair have been married since 2011 and still seem so in love. Here, we swoon over their adorable love story.
Out of all the couples in Hollywood, the couple has one of the most unique "how they met " stories. This took place in 2010 at a party while Reese was fresh from her breakup with Jake Gyllenhaal.
Jim came over and said, "'Please excuse my friend. He's just broken up with someone,'" she recalled to Elle. He then got his drunk friend out of there. "That's just kind of who he is, a really good person."
Reese and Jim dated quietly for a few months before they took the next step and brought friends and family into the mix. This big meeting happened at Reese's birthday party in Ojai, California. Meeting her kids, Ava and Deacon, came soon after.
When you know, you know. And when it comes to Reese and Jim, they knew, which is why they got engaged after only less than a year of dating. This came as a surprise to Reese who never saw herself getting married after her ex, Ryan Phillippe.
“Jim said, ‘I’m gonna show you every day what a good partner is, what a good person is. I’m going to take care of you. I’m gonna do this so much that you’re gonna get used to it.’ I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ I’ve never had anybody like that in my life," she told Elle.
The two lovebirds cemented their love with a private ceremony on March 26, 2011. Reese wore a gorgeous pink dress (this is the woman who played Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, after all) that was designed by Monique Lhullier.
“I got lucky. I did. I got very lucky. He’s so wonderful with the children. I’m very blessed," Reese told Marie Claire about her husband adjusting to being a stepdad to her two children, Ava and Deacon.
Since Jim passed being a stepdad with flying colors, it was time for the real thing. The pair welcomed a son on September 27, 2012. As a Southern belle, it should come as no surprise that they named their son, Tennessee.
In Very Weird Celebrity News, the world was absolutely shocked when the Legally Blonde star and her husband were arrested on April 19, 2013. They had gotten pulled over by an officer after their car was swerving.
Meanwhile, her husband Jim was arrested for a DUI. Reese later apologized in a statement for the incident, writing, that she had "one drink too many." I'd say!
While Reese stands quite short at 5’2" Jim is 6’1”. We doubt she minds, though, since many women find taller men to be exceptionally attractive. We wonder if their son will inherit more of her height or his.
Reese's production company, Hello Sunshine, has been such a ray of sunshine in Hollywood. With the goal of getting more women working in Hollywood, she has created many female-driven shows and films, such as Big Little Lies and Where the Crawdads Sing.
"I get a lot of support from my husband, who cares deeply about equality and always tells me, 'Why wouldn't you call the person in charge of a company and have a personal relationship with them?' He’s encouraged me to be outspoken," she told Marie Claire.
Living large! The couple purchased a $15.9 million English country-style home during the pandemic. According to Architectural Digest, the sprawling estate has over 9,500 square feet, which includes seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms (how many bathrooms do people need?!).
10 years down, many more to go! Reese celebrated their big day by writing a beautiful tribute to her sweet hubby.
