Before I continue, I should warn readers that this article will contain some spoilers if you haven't caught up yet.

So, this season revolved a lot around baby drama, with both Mel and Charmaine trying to find answers regarding who is the father of their children.

We did get an answer for Mel.

Turns out Jack is the father of her baby, having been confirmed by a paternity test they took after getting engaged.

Charmaine? We're still not sure, as the season ended on the cliffhanger that was her telling Jack that he wasn't the father of her twins also. That leaves us asking, who is the father then?

Turns out, this wasn't the original ending the show had planned.

Two of the show's stars, Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, who play Mel and Jack respectively, spoke to ET about the season's original ending.

"At the beginning of the season, Charmaine's babies were still Jack's. This was the outline," Breckenridge revealed.

Apparently, everyone liked the new ending way better.

"Charmaine's babies would always be Jack's and Mel's baby was going to be Mark's and then really close to the end, it completely changed. The writers came back and they were like, 'So Charmaine's babies are not Jack's and Mel's baby is Jack's,' and I was like, 'Oh my god, thank you!'"

The cast has become just as invested in these characters as the fans!

"When we talked about the beginning of the season before we started season 4, I really I was like, 'Ugh, it feels heartbreaking to me if Mel is pregnant with Mark's baby. It just feels like a letdown," she continued, "so I am really glad that they decided to go in the other direction."

Henderson felt the same way.

"I felt that at this juncture, season 4, we're many seasons in. We've watched these guys with their mutual troubled pasts come together and there's this promise of love and their connection and their attraction is undeniable. So the potential can only be for good."

The team is already back at work making the fifth season.

Breckenridge spoke about Mel's upcoming journey from her childhood becoming more of a focus in season five, while Henderson noted there will be "a lot of closure with Charmaine." He also said Jack will get to start his life anew.

Virgin River is available to stream on Netflix.
