Johnny Depp, 59, has arrived in France to begin filming his highly-anticipated first role following the defamation trial.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star once feared his career "would be defined" by the high-profile trial, but it looks like that won't be the case. His most recent film was 2020's Minamata, but prior to this, he had been asked to resign from the popular Fantastic Beasts franchise, where his role was recast with Mads Mikkelsen.

Depp recently dominated the news cycle in his high-profile defamation suit against ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Depp accused his ex-wife of defaming him in an op-ed piece she had written in 2018 following their divorce in which she identified herself as a public figure representing domestic abuse. The jury found that Amber was liable for defamation on three counts, while Depp was liable for defamation on one of her three counter-suits as well. This was following another high-profile suit in the U.K., where Depp accused a British newspaper of libel after they referred to him as a "wife beater," a case which Depp lost.

After Depp lost his libel lawsuit in the U.K., he announced that he had been asked to resign from his role in 'Fantastic Beasts.'

"In light of recent events, I would like to make the following short statement. Firstly, I'd like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty. I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days," Depp wrote in November of 2020.

His statement continued.

"Secondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request. Finally, I wish to say this."

"My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time. Thank you for reading."

It looks like Depp will get his wish to not have his career defined or stopped.
