How far would you go to meet your favorite celebrity? Some of us wouldn't be willing to get off the couch to meet a celeb, while others are willing to undertake an epic mission just to catch a glimpse.

An Australian YouTuber decided, on a total whim, to drive out into the desert to meet Chris Hemsworth. In the end, he got a little more than he bargained for.

Did he actually meet Chris Hemsworth, though? Read on to find out.

Chris Hemsworth is one of the most famous Chrises in Hollywood.

While Chris Pine and Chris Pratt may give him a run for his money, Chris Hemsworth is a bankable star, best known for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hemsworth is currently shooting Furiosa, the follow-up to Mad Max: Fury Road, in the middle of nowhere, Australia.

YouTuber Andy Mai set out to meet him.

It was admittedly a spur-of-the-moment plan.

Mai, who has more than 27,000 subscribers on YouTube and 4,000 followers on Instagram, found himself in possession of a luxury car after taking his own car in for servicing. Not wanting the luxury wheels to go to waste, he decided to set off for the Outback — the vast, remote desert in the middle of Australia.

His destination? Chris Hemsworth's movie set.

Mai originally intended to visit Mungo National Park, but decided to adjust his itinerary when he heard Furiosa was being shot in Broken Hill, New South Wales — an inland mining city in the western Outback.

Andy's goal? To meet Chris Hemsworth, of course.

The Outback is where they shot the original Mad Max.

Mai quickly found out that the luxury Mercedes he was driving was no match for the rugged roads of the Outback.

"This car was not built for the desert," he said. "Fifty percent of the trip was just dirt road. There were so many potholes. I got bogged down three times, and on the third time, I got stuck."

Andy found himself stranded with no cellphone reception.

Describing an increasingly scary experience, Andy said he didn't see another car for hours. Despite his best efforts to get the car moving, it wouldn't budge.

Finally, a young farmer on a dirt bike happened upon Andy and helped him out of his predicament.

That night, he found himself sleeping on a floor in Broken Hill because all the hotels were booked.

He drove back to Sydney the next day.

Mai needed to rush back for a work meeting, so he gave up on his dream of meeting Chris Hemsworth (for now) and headed back to the city, a 13-hour drive he struggled to stay awake for.

"There were so many moments I nearly crashed," he recalled.

"It's a bit sad I didn't see Chris Hemsworth, but next time I'm going to make sure I go to a film crew on a weekday and do it during the day so I can sort of blend in," Andy said.

He says the trip 'nearly killed' him.

Anyone who's ever been stranded on a lonely road knows just how desperate things can be. It's a shame that Andy didn't meet Chris Hemsworth, but at least he's safe.
