Regé-Jean Page Breaks Our Hearts, Shuts Down Claim He's Returning To 'Bridgerton'

Bridgerton fans, let's all hug and cry together. As it turns out, the rumors that our beloved Duke of Hastings would be returning to Bridgerton were just that — rumors. They were dreams, in fact. While there's no denying season 2 of the acclaimed Netflix series was absolutely incredible, there's always room for the Duke in the hearts and minds of Bridgerton fans.

As fans will recall, the first season of "Bridgerton" came out during the last leg of 2020.

We were exhausted. We were 9 months into a pandemic that seemed to be endless. We had already rewatched everything on Netflix 15 times over.

Bridgerton was new and exciting. It was steamy and salacious. It was everything we needed at that time, and more.

When it was announced last year that the beloved Duke of Hastings would not be rejoining the cast for season 2, fans were beyond devastated.

Bridgerton without Regé-Jean Page? How were we to cope?! How could the show carry on without its diamond?

Despite all the doubts, season two of the acclaimed series was an absolute knock-out.

Sure, there's a lot less sex, but there's a lot more emotion and depth and family drama. Sure, I missed the Duke, but the Viscount served us all just fine.

While I truly enjoyed the second season more than the first, there's no denying I missed our Duke — ESPECIALLY when we got to see glimpses of his wife, Daphne Bridgerton, and their adorable son, Augie.

As fans of the show may know already, it has been confirmed that the third season of the show will focus on Colin Bridgerton and his courtship of Penelope Featherington.

Earlier this week, fans got slightly less official news when they were told there were "talks" of the Duke returning to "Bridgerton" for the upcoming season.

Speaking to the Sun, a source said: "Regé-Jean was always very open about his intention to quit the show after the first season and to move on to other projects."

"But recently there has been a dialogue between him and the show’s bosses."

"Nothing has been formally agreed yet," the source added, "but watch this space."

Well, I did watch this space and guess what I learned? That this "space" lied to us all!

In a new post, Rége-Jean is shutting down the speculation in a spicy new post with Jonathan Bailey aka Viscount Anthony Bridgerton.

Sharing a photo of the pair strolling in Italy, the actor wrote: "The boys are back in town... No, I’m not going back to the show btw - the papers made that one up."

Well, there you have it, folks! I'm off to cry to a classic rendition of "Wildest Dreams."
