John Travolta Honors Fallen Son Jett On What Would Have Been His 30th Birthday

John Travolta has built up a cache of beloved and iconic roles throughout his career, but his enthusiasm in how he approaches life and his deep love for his family also factor heavily into why fans are just as invested in his story as ever.

So when Travolta has a major triumph in his life such as attaining his license to pilot a 737 plane, they're right there celebrating just as hard as he is.

But they're just as conscious of the many tragedies the actor has had to overcome in his life and are there to pray and mourn along with him when he reflects on losing Kelly Preston to cancer or his son Jett to a bizarre accident.

And there was a very special reason for Travolta to make one of these bittersweet tributes on April 13, as it marked what could have been a major milestone in his late son's life.

Yesterday, Travolta took to Instagram to post a black-and-white photo of a joyful moment he shared with Jett.

And those who have been following his account and his life story for a while would know that this is how he usually marks his fallen son's birthday.

And while this year was no different, that special day took on an all-new context this time.

This year, he wrote a heartfelt tribute to accompany the sweet photo, saying, "My dearest Jetty, I miss you more than words can say. I think about you everyday. Happy Birthday. Love, your Dad."

As is often the case, the photo captured Jett in his final years as he was only 16 when he passed away in 2009.

But while all of these passing birthdays are special to Travolta, this one marked a major milestone for Jett as he would have turned 30 if the events of his life had transpired differently.

It's always a devastating tragedy to lose someone at such a young age and that tragedy was compacted by how suddenly everything seemed to end for Jett.

According to People, he was on vacation with his family at their reserved spot at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island when he hit his head on a bathtub after experiencing a seizure.

Unfortunately, this incident isn't the only reason why the spring months are often a hard time of year for the Travolta family.

And that's because Jett's birthday comes less than three months before the anniversary of his mother Kelly Preston's death on July 12, 2020 at the age of 57.

That dark day came after a two-year battle with breast cancer and Travolta credited the medical staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center for fighting for her as hard as she fought for herself.
