Greta Thunberg Decided To Troll Her Haters For Halloween

There are three basic choices when you're trying to decide on a Halloween costume: do you go for something fun/funny, something scary, or a sexy version of either of those.

Wherever you settle, the most important ingredient is creativity. It didn't take long for Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg to pick up on that, even though they don't do Halloween in Sweden like we do in North America.

Greta has been touring through North America ever since arriving in New York via sailboat in September.

She has made a number of stops for climate strikes in cities like Montreal, Denver, Edmonton, and Vancouver, as well as meeting many First Nations representatives and touring conservation sites.

Her tour also happened to coincide with the largely North American tradition of Halloween trick-or-treating.

So what does a Swedish teenager new to the whole spooky season do for Halloween?

Well, creative Greta realized she wouldn't have to dress up as a witch to stir the pot, or even make much of a choice between tricking or treating. After all, she's already a lightning rod for opponents, so she basically just needed to be herself.

And yes, the climate deniers took Greta's bait.

Replying to one person's tweet about their child dressing up as Greta for Halloween, someone wrote "Your daughter is so cute and smiling girl. Greta, on the other hand has a very big salary and a very very annoying face."

"Hate to have to break it to you Greta but you are the climate change denier," wrote another. "You seem to think that climate has never and should never change when in actuality it has always changed, that's why North America is no longer buried under miles of ice."

Mind you, Greta did inspire many costumes for Halloween this year.

Seeing how she serves as both hero to climate activists and villain to climate deniers, it's a win-win for Halloween. Kids and grown-ups, and even a few pets, found inspiration in Greta.

Heck, there were even Greta-themed jack o'lanterns out there.

And, by and large, Greta's supporters outweighed the haters.

"I saw so many of my friends little girls dressed up as you with your sweet braids and climate sign. They want to be just like you!" wrote one person.

"The climate deniers are trying to dress Earth up as Venus," wrote another. "Thank you for all you are doing to help prevent that from happening."
