I don't know if I ever mentioned that I'm a huge movie buff. There was a time when I used to go to the movies almost every weekend. And then, on the off weekends, I would be at Blockbuster catching up on missed releases.

So when it comes to films, I have plenty of nostalgic ones, and as it turns out, so do a lot of other people. A recent Reddit thread asked, "What’s a movie you love that you swear no one ever talks about like the world has forgotten it?" and it was so cool to see the answers. Let's check it out.

'A Fish Called Wanda' (1988)

Oh my goodness, I watched this movie back in the day. I don't know why nobody ever mentions it. It's such a quirky comedy starring a host of amazing actors. For starters, there's Jamie Lee Curtis, and then the cast continues with Kevin Kline, Michael Palin, and Tom Georgeson. If you haven't seen it, you have to watch it. I'm telling you it's hilarious.

'Baby Boom' (1987)

Diane Keaton

This movie was such a great vehicle for Diane Keaton. She plays a yuppie Harvard-educated lawyer aggressively pushing her way up the executive ladder. And then her life gets turned upside-down when a baby shows up on her doorstep left by her distant relative. Oh, baby! As you might have guessed, things go awry pretty fast, ha, ha.

'The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag' (1992)

Here's another gem I remember watching a long time ago. Honestly, I can't recall any of the storylines, ha, ha. It basically revolves around an ignored, small-town librarian who confesses to a murder she didn't commit just to get attention. Sounds good, huh? I told you so.

'Ladyhawke' (1985)

Ladyhawke
IMDb | IMDb

"A great 1980s sword and sorcery movie."

This is such a sweet love story if you're into that kind of thing, which I am, hee-hee. And it has a great cast starting with one of my favorites Michelle Pfeiffer. Did I mention it also stars young Matthew Broderick and Blade Runner's Rutger Hauer? Enough said!

'Major Payne' (1995)

"Major Payne: Boy, I am two seconds from being on you like white on rice in a glass of milk on a paper plate in a snowstorm. I'm gonna put my foot so far up your ass, the water on my knee will quench your thirst."

LOL! This movie starring Daymon Wayans, Michael Ironside, and Bam Bam Bigelow has all the cool lines.

'Pump Up The Volume' (1990)

"Pump Up the Volume. Introduced me to the band The Pixies. It sort of had a premonition that young people were going to have this method of mass communication with one another in ways that circumvented parental oversight. It just got the medium really really wrong."

Literally one of my favorite '90s movies. So be it! And yeah, it has Christian Slater. OMG!

'Bernie' (2011)

Jack Black
IMDb | IMDb

"The one with Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey. An absolutely hilarious dark comedy."

If you're into dark comedies, you'll love this one. It revolves around a mortician from a small-town Texas who strikes up a friendship with a wealthy widow. But when she starts to control him, he goes to great lengths to separate himself from her grasp.

Real Genius (1985)

"Real Genius, featuring a young Val Kilmer, and William Atherton, aka Walter Peck in Ghostbusters."

Okay, I have to admit somehow I missed this movie which is weird because I was a huge fan of Val Kilmer. So I guess I have a project for this weekend to watch this movie with my fiancé. Yay!

'So I Married An Ax Murderer' (1993)

"This is an awesome movie. I hope one day to actually learn the ancient Scottish art of [expletive]-you, which is said to be mostly head butting and kicking people upon their descent to the ground, but I’ll update as necessary."

Ha, ha, this movie always made me laugh.

'The Pink Panther Strikes Again' (1976)

"Does your dog bite?

"No." (Dog snarls and bites him).

"I thought you said your dog doesn't bite?"

"That is not my dog."

Ha, ha. I remember how much I loved the Pink Panther series as a kid. I was even telling my fiancé the other day that we should watch it, so now I'm going to insist on it.

'French Kiss' (1995)

"It stars Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline. It was filmed in the '90s when Meg was America's sweetheart. So cute and fun. No one ever talks about it, and — every time I bring it up — no one knows what the hell I'm talking about."

I was basically obsessed with this movie and still am. It's such an unusual love story, and it's super funny, too.

'The Cutting Edge' (1992)

"One of my favorite 'opposites attract' 'enemies to lovers' movies! They had so much chemistry. The sequels were cringey pale imitations sadly."

Speaking of awesome romantic movies, this one is another gem. It's a love and hate story that never gets old.

'The Secret Garden' (1993)

"This is one of my all-time favorites and I feel like not a whole lot of people in my age group agree, ha, ha. The music is lovely, and it has a bit of a haunting feeling on top of innocence. It also portrays mental health very well for its time."

This movie sounds wonderful. I can't believe I haven't seen it before.

'Down Periscope' (1996)

scene from Down Periscope

"I showed my kids that movie (12 and 15 at the time) and that scene when the cook farts during silent operation, my daughter legitimately pissed herself laughing and my son was in pain from laughing so hard."

OMG, I have to watch this movie now.

'Strange Brew' (1983)

scene from Strange Brew
IMDB | IMDB

"Strange Brew. Bob and Doug Mackenzie's crowning achievement."

So my fiancé showed this movie to me as I have never seen it, and I've been a fan ever since, eh? I mean, how can you not like this gem here, you hoser.

'Heart And Souls' (1993)

"I feel like I’m the only person left who remembers that movie. It was the movie where I first fell in love with Robert Downey Jr. Such a sweet story and perfect cast. GO WATCH IT!"

Oh, I hear you, girl. This is one of my favorite RDJ movies, too. I'm so happy to see other people appreciate it, too. And the cast is absolutely outstanding.

'Short Circuit' (1986)

Ally Sheedy, Steve Guttenberg and Johnny 5 from Short Circuit

"Short Circuit, literally everyone that I talk to has never watched it or heard of it. It's sad too because I love that movie so much."

You know what, we just rewatched this movie last year. I couldn't remember much of it, but I recall how much I loved the robot. And, of course, the famous line, "Johnny 5 is ALIVE!" ha, ha! I was also totally obsessed with Steve Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy at the time.

'Death Becomes Her' (1992)

scene from Death Becomes Her
IMDB | IMDB

"Death becomes her. My all-time fav movie, amazing cast, and plot but I have never found a single soul who would praise it with me."

I thought this movie was a fire-cracker too. You can't go wrong with Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, and Goldie Hawn. Am I right, or am I wrong?

Wow, so many gems here, huh?

So let me ask you: have you seen any of these movies? I'm happy to report that out of 18 films listed here, I've only missed out on four. That's quite the accomplishment if I say so myself. I know what I will be catching up on this weekend. How about you? Which one will you watch first?
