If you're going to fail, fail spectacularly. That way, even when you're doing it wrong, you're doing it right. And the kitchen is a wonderful source of spectacular failures.
The TV chefs make it look easy, don't they? Throw some garlic and extra virgin olive oil and basil on it, bake it at 375 for 40 minutes and, hey presto, there's a beautiful dish all glistening with deliciousness for the camera. Does it ever work that way at home? Not in my home. But just remember, even the greatest chefs must have made a glorious mess at some point. But have they made messes as impressive as these?
