'Gender Reveal' Lasagna Is Going Viral But Some People Aren't Having It

It's hard to tell when they started becoming a thing, but over the past few years, there's a pretty good chance that you or someone you know have been invited to a gender reveal party.

And for whatever reason, it seems that the mystery behind whether a baby on the way will be a boy or a girl has turned into a big enough deal that it warrants elaborate firework displays and arrays of pink or blue light.

And although the bizarre concoction we're talking about today isn't nearly as disastrous as how those fireworks displays can turn out, a lot of people still think it's a bit much.

As part of a whole gender reveal catering package, a restaurant chain known as Villa Italian Kitchen has apparently created a lasagna that makes the reveal for expecting parents.

Apparently, it comes with a choice of salad and a tray of garlic rolls and can set customers back about $140.

While we could sit and wonder all day about how the answer to a simple and kind of inconsequential question got so out of hand, it's just as easy to be curious about how a lasagna reveals anybody's gender.

Well, the answer is that they color the cheese pink or blue depending on whether the baby-to-be is a girl or boy.

Which, yes, makes it look like the lasagna is filled with cake frosting. The lasagna is mostly cheese on the inside, so the strange pink or blue ooze will end up dominating the whole thing.

It doesn't come as much of a surprise that some folks didn't really know how to feel about this.

Gender reveal parties already tend to bring up a lot of complicated feelings for people.

On one hand, there's a desire not to rain on anybody's parade, but it also seems weird to place so much emphasis on the gender of somebody who isn't even born yet.

Plus, the word "appetizing" doesn't exactly come to mind when we look the pasta dish itself.

Although it's possible that the brightly colored results will come as a pleasant surprise to anybody who ever felt tempted to taste Nickelodeon Gak.

But whether it was because of the bizarre results or general fatigue about gender reveal parties, the lasagna doesn't seem to be a hit on Twitter.

Somebody was apparently very busy trying to get in touch with these users to promote it, but the common reply seemed to be along these lines.

Apparently, it's easy to underestimate just how much presentation can matter with food.

This person's followers may have been joking, but they've actually come up with a more clever way to make a gender reveal lasagna if that's what somebody ever tasks you with for whatever reason.

So at least there's that.

While we buzzed about the weird dye, Villa Italian Kitchen went on to say that the lasagna was made with pasta imported from Italy with a classic Alfredo sauce and ricotta and mozzarella cheeses.

And it all came together to make something that my Nona would probably shake her head in bewilderment at.

But despite all the vitriol, it's safe to say that this way of celebrating a gender reveal is harmless compared to other methods people have tried.

After all, anything's better than the giant, blue explosion that sparked a wildfire which caused $8 million in damages to 47,000 acres of land in Arizona last year.
