Tragedies befall movies all the time, but when bad things happen to good people shooting horror films, the mood turns decidedly ominous. Here's a list of movies with real-life stories of death and dismemberment.

The Omen beset by lightning and a decapitation

Everyone knows Damien - he's that little boy from The Omen who can strike fear in parents everywhere. In the 1976 movie, Damien gets adopted by an unsuspecting couple who realize he's the Antichrist. Whoopsie. But real bad luck continued to follow the cast and crew of the film. The planes that held actor Gregory Peck and other movie executives were struck by lightning. That's a fairly common thing to have happen, and the passengers were OK. But in August, 1976, two visual-effects workers for the movie were involved in a car accident. The woman, Liz Moore, was decapitated. Survivor John Richardson allegedly got out of the car and looked up to see a sign that read "Ommen, 66.6 km." Creeeeepy.

The Exorcist is so clearly cursed

The Exorcist is one of the most famous "cursed" films known to man. The set for the MacNeil family home was badly burned during production. Strangely enough, the room where Regan stayed (played by Linda Blair) was spared by the blaze. Deaths and murders also befell the movie post-production. Actress Ellen Burstyn was injured during a scene where she is wearing a harness. The scream you hear in the film is her actual scream. It's called "nightmare death," when victims, while sleeping, would suddenly cry out, and then die. The men had an average age of 33. Between 1983 and 1987, about 130 males died of these "night terrors." Freddy is real, y'all.

Several incidents during this famous film were reported. For one, producer William Castle suffered with kidney stones after being accused of witchcraft for working on the film. Most famously, Roman Polanski's wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by members of the Manson Family. Manson claimed to be inspired by the Beatles song "Helter Skelter." Beatle member John Lennon, incidentally, was killed outside the Dakota Building, the same building that appears in Rosemary's Baby. Whoa.
